Quotations in Marketing

Marketing Hot Take: “Quotations” in Marketing Material

This is hilariously true but also a ๐ŸšจMarketing Hot Take ๐Ÿšจ: DO NOT USE QUOTATION MARKS ON YOUR MARKETING MATERIAL, digital, printed, air quotes, or otherwise! In today’s vernacular and understanding, quotations connotate that something is “not quite what it seems but you won’t find that out until you talk to me ๐Ÿ˜” OR something is “suggestively implied ๐Ÿ˜‰.” Sorry to be the millennial bearer of bad news, but it tends to be the older Gen X / younger Boomers that do this, because using quotations used to be used for emphasis in marketing. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ But in today’s marketing age, using CAPS (selectively), using different fonts, underlining, and italicizing are just a few common, not-weird ways to highlight something. Perfect example I saw yesterday for a realtor’s flyer at a community center: Contact Me for a “Free” Consultation. ๐Ÿค” Ummmm ok. Lol. New Segment: Marketing JargonBusters! There’s a lot of technical terms in the marketing industry, which can be confusing and frustrating in the ever-changing technological landscape. Each First Friday of the month I will be giving a basic outline and description of some type of marketing jargon, to help you understand what they mean, and maybe even how you could implement your knowledge into your business. First up: Hashtag! We all see them and use them, but many people don’t REALLY understand them and how they can be leveraged for business. Think of hashtags like search keywords for social media. Platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram aren’t your typical search engines, like Google or Bing. Instead, people use a # and a group of words together to create a sort of category of post that people may be interested in searching for. As a business using hashtags, the key is to use ones that make sense for your business, but are also likely for people to ACTUALLY use to search for the product or service you offer. For example, a CBD health and wellness focused company may use hashtags such as #cbdoil and #hemp, both of which are searched for often [โ€ฆ]

Do you have a favorite emoji? ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ’ฉ

Do you have a favorite emoji? ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ’ฉChances are, you probably do, and you probably use it a lot! One of mine is ๐Ÿ˜Ž! Emoji have become the modern day hieroglyphics, capturing not just a single word, but phrases, emotions, and whole ideas. They have found their way into every day conversation, as well as business interactions. Did you know your business could benefit from the use of emoji in marketing efforts? According to a study by Adobe: ๐Ÿ’ฐ64% of emoji users are willing to make a purchase with an emoji. ๐Ÿ•44% of emoji users are more likely to purchase products advertised using emojis. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ58% of email users are more likely to open an email from a brand that has an emoji in the subject line.
